Our Framework

Wantage and Grove Church Partnership

  1. The aim of the Partnership is to further the mission of the church in the area by encouraging good relationships between Christian congregations and united action in witness, outreach and service to the community.
  2. Member churches are autonomous and their various characters are respected and valued.  It may be that not every member church participates in every activity which is promoted by the Partnership.
  3. The founding members of the Partnership are:
    • Grove Methodist Church
    • S. John the Baptist Church Grove (Church of England)
    • S. John Vianney Catholic Church
    • Ss. Peter and Paul with Holy Trinity (Church of England)
    • The Community of S. Mary the Virgin
    • Wantage Christian Fellowship
    • Wantage Community Church
    • Wantage Methodist Church
  4. The clergy of the member churches meet regularly for mutual support, conversation and reflection and to continue to explore ways of working together.
  5. A Council is appointed to ensure the practical outworking of the aim of the Partnership.
  6. The members of the Council shall be one leader/clergy and two further representatives appointed by each church. Additional members may be appointed by the AGM.  Appointing bodies are asked to give due regard to continuity.
  7. The Officers of the Council shall be Chair, Vice-chair, Secretary, Treasurer and Communications Officer. The officers may be lay or ordained, and shall be appointed at the AGM from among the members of the Council by nomination and ballot.
  8. The Chair shall be elected to serve for a term of three years. Other officers must be elected annually.
  9.  The Council shall meet on not less than two occasions each year.
  10.  The Council shall maintain a bank account and shall appoint a minimum of three signatories to this account any two of which shall form a valid authority.
  11. The Council may appoint representatives to community groups as it deems appropriate and as opportunity arises.
  12. The Council shall have the right to amend this agreement at any time. Changes shall require thirty days’ notice to all Council members and the approval of 75% of members attending and voting.
  13. If any further church in Wantage or Grove seeks to join the Partnership they are welcome to do so subject to the agreement of all the existing member churches, such agreement being expressed at a meeting of the Council.
  14. The Annual General Meeting shall be open to all members of participating churches.  It shall be held in September of each year for the reception of annual reports and independently examined  statements of account. It shall agree the budget and level of churches’ contributions for the year which shall be proposed by the Treasurer. It shall elect the Chair and other officers and conduct any other business the Chair may permit.
